Why the Fourth of July is My Favorite Holiday

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?

My Favorite Holiday is Fourth of July. Why?

Because we would go on a picnic as a family and have fun, cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and chips. Drinking Kool-Aid like it going out of style.

It’s the one time of year were I could smell the charcoal burning and hear the hamburgers sizzling, while some of the hot dogs were burnt to a crisp for that added taste.

Every so often we would even have foot-longs, which are long hotdogs on a long hotdog bun with mustard, ketchup, diced onions, chili, and relish to top.

Mom would make her world famous potato salad (unfortunately the recipe got lost over time), but over time we improved upon it.

Plus, spending time with our family was always nice.

We would bring bad mitten, gloves and baseball to throw, volleyball, and nerf football to play with. Can’t forget the water guns. Of course, there was really no way to refill them at the parks.

Then as the day was coming to an end, we would just lye or sit on the blanket under the star watching the colorful fireworks going off and listening to the great big booms.

We then pack up and all get in the car and listen to the music on the way home.

Those memories, I still hold dear to my heart. The time we shared and enjoyed the food. Sharing the fun times and watching together as things settle down for the night.

The things that we use to do, but now it’s just a memory, for things change as time goes on….
